چکیده

Recent analyses of ontology engineering efforts showed that it is not only novices which are commonly faced with comprehension problems or misconceptions of modeling consequences. A better understanding can be fundamentally supported by on-demand explanations of subsumption, the core inference service of ontology reasoning systems. In this paper we describe ongoing work towards a systems for explaining subsumption for a significant fraction of the Description Logic underlying OWL Lite. Our explainer uses a tableaubased approach to generate step by step quasi-natural language explanations. We also comment on related work and discuss future explaining features.

Taking shortcuts with OWL using safe macros

Accurate representation of complex domains such as biology demands powerful and expressive ontology languages such as OWL. However, the complex nested class expressions required for modeling can be a hindrance to ontology authoring and adoption. These class expressions can appear opaque to domain experts, and even users proficient in OWL can benefit from some kind of syntactic sugar or “short-c...

Generating Multilingual Personalized Descriptions from OWL Ontologies on the Semantic Web: the NaturalOWL System∗

We present Naturalowl, an open-source multilingual natural language generation system that produces personalized descriptions of individuals and classes, starting from a linguistically annotated ontology. The generator is heavily based on ideas from ilex and m-piro, but it is in many ways simpler and it provides native support for owl dl ontologies, which we annotate with linguistic and user mo...

AI-RPG Toolkit: Towards A Deep Model Implementation for Improvisational Virtual Drama

The form of improvisational drama allows participants to have their own choices to influence the ongoing story, and each play results in a different ending. However, authoring such story contents requires ad hoc scripting, and static story structures lose ingenuity once users hacked through them. Our purpose is to develop a toolkit for: (1) fast authoring the story content, and (2) allow it for...

The MATHESIS Ontology: Reusable Authoring Knowledge for Reusable Intelligent Tutors

This paper describes the MATHESIS Ontology, which is part of the MATHESIS project that aims at the development of an intelligent authoring environment for reusable model-tracing math tutors. The purpose of the ontology is to provide a semantic and therefore inspectable and reusable representation of the declarative and procedural authoring knowledge necessary for the development of a model-trac...

The SWRLAPI: A Development Environment for Working with SWRL Rules

SWRL is an expressive OWL-based rule language that can be used to increase the amount of knowledge encoded in OWL ontologies. While semantically a SWRL rule can be considered as an additional type of OWL axiom, the authoring and management of SWRL rule bases requires specialized tools that are not typically present in standard OWL development environments. In this paper, we describe such a tool...
